ORDINARY SPACES

Ordinary Spaces is a project that dives into the reality of Plymouth’s concrete jungle in a time of change. The importance of our surroundings is that they shape our behaviour and actions, satisfy our needs, and connect us to the environment. The direct shift in these spaces is unfamiliar to me as I begin to shift from different environments to start my chapter. Documenting the concrete Jungle, one point of view that captured this project's narrative is the bold colours surrounding the environment, attracting eyes to ordinary spaces. The significance of colour is key, as it can provide a different input to these banal spaces. Not only does colour create a different input to ordinary spaces, but we are also connected to these elements, as they can shape characteristics and our lifestyles.

The personal connection I share with colour in this project is the representation I present of my Lithuanian Heritage, capturing the colours of the flag that have a deeper meaning. Yellow is used to represent the sun, light, and goodness. Green is used to symbolise the beauty of nature, freedom, and hope. Red is used to represent the land, courage and the blood spilt for Lithuania.
