Overseas To Foreign Land
Overseas to Foreign Land is a personal exploration into the chaotic dock city of Plymouth, capturing my experiences of living as a university student in a new area. Having been raised in a quiet town for most of my life, it was hard to find my bearings in the concrete jungle, but what I could see in this self-exploration was the connection people shared with the seaside in Plymouth. The "Overseas" part focuses on the seaside culture around Plymouth and childhood representations. "Foreign Land" has two different meanings: First, it means moving from a smaller town to a city. Second, it means about my early journeys as an immigrant moving from my origin country, Lithuania, to England, showing the representation of the constant movement I had experienced at a young age.
This project also explores 3 different viewpoints of the representation of experiencing a place, and they are: Living In The Moment, Treasured Memories, and Tranquillity.
LIVING IN THE MOMENT
Living in the moment can be described as a way of experiencing a place without distractions and focusing on the present moment.
TREASURED MEMORIES
Memories that are kept safe are treasured for the future, memories that are important to people, reflecting on their lives through previous memories.
TRANQUILITY
A sense of peace that is unseen, away from the busy world.
